Having begun my architectural studies in 1986, I was present at the emergence of virtual reality development as applied to architectural and planning practice. However, as an accomplished draughtsman I was reluctant to embrace this new technology recognising that presentation was key to the communication of three dimensional concepts and ideas and that the drawing board remained the most effective method of rendering these concepts. However, once in professional practice, the pace of the advancement of available technologies quickly overtook my capabilities as a draughtsman and I embraced its potential with enthusiasm and I still retain that enthusiasm for computers as a design tool today.

I have accumulated around twenty years of pre and post qualification experience within private architectural and planning consultancies as well as academic institutions. As a qualified architect and a chartered town planner I feel I have background knowledge and experience which provides a unique grounding for my work. From the first introduction of computers into the drawing office I have developed a specialism in the creation of three dimensional images of large scale urban redevelopment as well as detailed renderings of individual buildings. I have seen at first hand, in public consultation, how effectively my work has been able to communicate complex design solutions to members of the public and industry professionals alike. This experience has been channelled into the gradual evolution of my technique, which has developed and evolved with the help of software developers who have made huge strides over the last decade. To have constantly received feedback from colleagues, the public, planners and above all, clients over a period of more than ten years has provided me with a knowledge bank and a level of experience that will inform future projects.

I have been fortunate in working within a number of excellent practices over the years, such as Couves, Ian Darby Partnership and Browne Smith Baker.

Within a masterplanning context I have been involved with a broad range of housing, commercial and educational projects as well as transport infrastructure, such as the Heathrow Express Rail Link and Terminal 4. I have been involved with creating masterplans for many urban regeneration projects, for example at Southwick in Sunderland for Sunderland Housing Group (now Gentoo) and for Trinity Crescent, North Ormesby for Middlesbrough Council. I have also been involved in producing visualisations for large scale masterplanning schemes as well as designing individual buildings and detailed house types. I have also been engaged in designing promotional material for practice re-launches and other marketing publications, presentation boards for public consultations, writing design and access statements and supporting documentation for bids and planning applications.

I am familiar with the industry standard desktop publishing software and digital imaging solutions as well as the best available virtual building and high end rendering packages.
